Visiting the Shelter

WCHS welcomes visitors whether you are looking for a pet to adopt, interested in volunteering, or “just visiting” our wonderful animals.

Location of Windham County Humane Society

We are located at 916 West River Road (Route 30) in Brattleboro, VT, about 5 minutes from downtown Brattleboro. Click on map for driving directions.

Wednesday – Sunday: Noon to 5 pm
Monday & Tuesday: By appointment only

Meeting Our Dogs

Information on all dogs available for adoption is posted on the “Meet Our Dogs” bulletin board in our reception area. If you see a dog you would like to meet, just let a staff member know and we will bring the dog out of the kennel to meet you. Meeting outside the kennel in a quiet space is much less stressful for the dog and the visitor!

Visiting Our Animals

Visitors are invited to meet and play with cats, one at a time, in our cat rooms.

WCHS often has rabbits, ferrets, birds and other small animals available for adoption. Visitors are welcome to vist and play with these animals in our reception area.

Please help us keep our animals healthy – wash your hands between handling animals. Thank you!

Group visits and tours

WCHS welcomes school and community groups. If you are interested in a guided tour, please call 802-254-2232 or email to schedule a date and time.

We look forward to your visit!
