FOSTER CARE PROGRAM

WCHS often has a need of volunteer families or individuals who are willing to take in and raise mother cats and kittens. The mother cat should stay with the kittens for at least 8 weeks, and we have found that everyone does much better if that time is spent in a home.

The foster family will be provided with a litter box, litter, food, dishes and anything else needed for the kittens and mom. All you need to provide is love, playtime and clean-up. Watching kittens grow is such fun! This is a great family project.

When the kittens are 8 weeks old, mom and babies come back to the Humane Society to be spayed/neutered and to find new homes. Of course, foster parents will get first choice if they decide to adopt any of the kittens or mom! The Adoption Fee is waived for foster parents should they decide to adopt the animal(s) they were fostering.

In addition to cats, WCHS has animals in our care that need temporary foster care. Reasons for an animal needing a temporary home include:

  • Pregnant cats and dogs

  • Animals recovering from minor injuries

  • Animals under extreme stress from the shelter environment

All foster care homes must be screened and have an approved adoption application on file at the shelter. If you are interested in our Foster Care Program, please contact the shelter.
