Become a Volunteer
Love animals? You’ll love volunteering here!
WCHS volunteers are a very important part of our team. They help our staff provide loving care to our animals by performing a wide range of tasks --- everything from helping feed and play with our animals to helping staff our fund raising events. As a WCHS volunteer, you’ll make a real difference for our shelter pets – and what could be more fun than spending a few hours with wonderful critters?
Shelter volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum contribution of two hours per week for a six month period. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
All volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Application and to attend a Volunteer Orientation Session. Click here to complete an application on line, or call 802-254-2232, email info.wchs@gmail.com or stop in to request an application. Once you have submitted an application, our volunteer coordinator will call you to schedule an orientation.
Foster Care Volunteers
Can you provide a loving, temporary home to an animal in need? Our shelter often needs “foster parents” for pregnant dogs or cats, animals recovering from injuries, or other animals who need a homelike environment.
All foster homes must have an approved adoption application on file at the shelter. Click here to complete an application.
TLC for kittens and mom cats
The WCHS has a particular need for families or individuals who are willing to take in and raise mother cats and kittens for 8 to 10 weeks. This ensures that kittens are well-socialized before going to a new home.
Foster families will be provided with a litter box, litter, food, dishes and anything else needed for the kittens and mom. All you need to provide is love, playtime and clean-up. Watching kittens grow is such fun! This is a great family project.
When the kittens are 8 weeks old, mom and babies come back to WCHS to be spayed/neutered and to find new homes. Foster parents get "pick of the litter" or can adopt mom, and the adoption fee is waived.
