The Windham County Humane Society is partnering with Dr. Sara White of Spay ASAP to offer low-cost spay/neuter clinics to residents of Windham County. Spaying and neutering of your beloved pet at an early
age can help prevent overpopulation of unwanted animals. According to the Humane Society of the US, more than 3 million pets are euthanized by shelters every year. More often than not, these are healthy,
adoptable animals. There are simply not enough homes to be found. Please be assured, however, that WCHS does not euthanize for time or space issues.
The clinics take place at the
shelter on the following dates in 2010:
-
Tuesday, January 12
-
Tuesday, February 23
-
Tuesday, March 16

The basic cost is $30 for a cat neuter, $35 for a cat spay, $60 for a dog neuter, and $80 for a dog spay.
A supplemental charge of $20 will be added for dogs over 90 pounds and for dogs
that cannot be handled safely and require extra time to be restrained for
anesthesia administration. Participants may pay less than than these stated
prices depending on income and circumstances. Vaccines can be administered
at an additional fee of $5 per vaccine requested.
A $25 deposit per animal is required (via cash, check, or credit card information to be held at WCHS), though it may be refunded, in whole or in part, depending on how much financial assistance is awarded. If you
do not show up for the clinic, your deposit will not be returned.
To participate in the program, please complete an
application and
return it to the shelter. Once we have approved your application, we will call
you to schedule an appointment for your pet's spay/neuter and to provide
additional instructions. Space is limited,
so apply as early as you can in order to receive your first-choice date. Note: We encourage those who can afford to do so to use their vet for spay/neutering.
In addition, the Vermont Spay/Neuter Incentive Program (VSNIP) enables income eligible people that
provide care for cats and dogs to receive financial assistance to have these animals neutered and vaccinated. Most of the vets in the area are part of the
program which only charges $25 for spaying or neutering. Call WCHS to request an application.
